The Symposium will be held in the center of Genoa, in the "Sala delle Grida" (Auction Room) of the prestigious former Palazzo della Nuova Borsa Valori (the New Stock Exchange building). It is a majestic example of Art Nouveau architecture, built in a lavish and celebratory style to emphasize the importance of Genoa's financial structure and the volume of business conducted there.
After trading ceased in 1998, the Genoa Chamber of Commerce, with the contribution of the CARIGE Foundation, restored the building to the city, preserving its appearance but renewing its function. Today, the Stock Exchange buiding is no longer a place where prices are traded but a meeting and exhibition point for events linked by a common denominator: 20th-century and contemporary culture in all its expressions.
